I was nine years old when I first saw how much a bit of paper could matter.
I was standing in La Senza, looking up at the counter, watching the assistant wrap a customer purchase. She didn’t just shove it in a bag. She took these crisp sheets of pink tissue paper and folded them so carefully—tucking the corners in just right, like she was making a bed. This beautiful package was then placed inside a crisp white box and, for the final flourish, scented beads were poured in. She finished it with a little sticker, and I remember thinking: “Oh, that’s special.”
It wasn't about the knickers inside the box. It was the fact that someone had taken the time to make the whole experience feel special—and the customer too!
That feeling has stayed with me for decades, and it’s one of the founding principles of Scented Sanctuary.
We’re all so used to boxes arriving with a thud on the doorstep, filled with plastic bubbles and a printed receipt. It’s all so fast and a bit cold. But when you open a box from me, I want you to feel that same "hush" I felt when I was nine.
I’m not just pouring wax into jars and clamshells in my kitchen. I’m trying to send you a little bit of quiet.
Before you even light the wick or snap off a wax melt, I want the way the paper is folded and the way everything sits in the box to tell you that I’ve taken my time. Because if I’ve taken my time making this for you, maybe it will be a little easier for you to take some time for yourself.
